When the chillier months roll around and the holidays have come and gone, it’s easy to feel stuck in a travel rut where you’re lacking inspiration on where to go next. Escaping to somewhere warm and tropical is always a great option, but why not embrace the wonders of winter while you have the chance?
With that in mind, we’ve compiled some fun and unique ways to set off on an arctic adventure of your own, all within the United States.
Snowy Slope Hopping
Okay… we’ll admit: this one is a bit predictable, but we’d be remiss to not mention all of the incredible opportunities that exist to ski, snowboard, or snowtube on both the east and west coasts. From Vail, CO to Stowe, VT, you’re sure to find a beautiful, well-maintained mountain that accommodates your preferences and skillset without having to go too far. Us? We’re partial to Big Bear, CA for a close-to-home option after our epic trip with Girls That Board last winter. 🎿
Icy Sightseeing
Frosty winterscapes are truly among the most breathtaking vistas the US has to offer. We learned this first hand on our Live Free Tour stop in Juneau, AK, where we took to the skies and seas with Taku Glacier Helicopter and Airboat Tours for stunning views of the Taku Glacier. We even got to hike Nugget Falls while exploring the stunning waterfalls, lakes, and views surrounding the Mendenhall Glacier. We can’t recommend the city and people of Juneau enough for a winter weekend full of wonders.
Snowshoeing and Safaris
The National Parks of the US are bucket list items for any time of year, but the winter months offer the opportunity to set out on some incredibly unique activities. You can opt for something active like snowshoeing in Yellowstone with a master naturalist as your guide, or you can take a ride on a winter safari in the Wyoming Tetons to spot elk, bison, bighorn sheep and more! Whichever you choose, we have you covered during your downtime with our Live Free guide to Jackson Hole, a top winter destination that acts as a gateway to both Grand Teton and Yellowstone! And don’t forget: you can help protect our National Parks with our bracelet created in partnership with the National Parks Conservation Association. 💚
Chill Cabincore
If all of this activity and excitement is just not what you’re after on a weekend away, one of the best and most relaxing ways to escape in the colder months is to rent a cozy cabin in a snowy setting with the people you’re closest with. Think board games, secrets by the fire, movie marathons, making smores… the options are endless. Not to mention, this can be an affordable and amazing way to get away with friends and family and explore a new place.
We can’t wait to see where your winter adventures take you and which PV places you take with you. ✨ If we inspire any of your travels this year, don’t forget to tag @puravida on social.
