Common Threads helps teach low-income children how to cook wholesome and affordable meals. They strive to help prevent childhood obesity through their hands-on cooking classes. If children learn to cook affordable and nutritious foods, then they will learn to eat a better balanced diet. Common Threads wants to change the way our generation prepares food, especially for those that don’t cook. Their mission is to foster an appreciation of cultural diversity through cooking. They want to educate children on the importance of the physical well-being as well as the importance of nutrition. They do this by helping to bridge cultural boundaries and by strengthening our global family by teaching children about their similarities as well as differences in the warm comfort of preparing and sharing nutritious meals.
Children who participate in the Common Threads program learn to connect not only with their bodies, but with their neighbors and the rest of the world. This is done a bite at a time. Common Threads represents the two basic ingredients that link all people of this planet together, the love of family and food. Family nurtures us, protects us and connects us to a larger community. Food nourishes us, excites us and teaches us about the world around us.
Join them and embark on a world adventure as they prepare nutritious meals rooted in diverse cultural heritages by participating in their programs! We can bridge cultural boundaries and strengthen our bond as a global family through the simple process of preparing and sharing a meal with others. We couldn’t agree more!
