National Keratoconus Foundation

The National Keratoconus Foundation (NKCF) is an outreach program of the Discovery Eye Foundation, a non-profit organization. The NKCF is dedicated to the support of scientific research and treatment of keratoconus, an eye condition resulting in significant visual impairment. As well The National Keratoconus Foundation (NKCF) stands to increase awareness and understanding of keratoconus.
Keratoconus if often abbreviated to “KC” either name the condition is the same. According to the National Keratoconus Foundation it is a non-inflammatory eye condition in which the normally round dome-shaped cornea gradually thins causing a cone-like bulge to develop resulting in significant visual impairment.
It’s been estimated to occur in 1 out of every 2,000 persons in the general population, but the actual incidence of keratoconus is not known. Thankfully it’s not a common eye disease, but even then, it’s not a rare condition. Did you know that KC is generally first diagnosed in young people at puberty or in their late teens?
