Keratoconus if often abbreviated to “KC” either name the condition is the same. According to the National Keratoconus Foundation it is a non-inflammatory eye condition in which the normally round dome-shaped cornea gradually thins causing a cone-like bulge to develop resulting in significant visual impairment.
It’s been estimated to occur in 1 out of every 2,000 persons in the general population, but the actual incidence of keratoconus is not known. Thankfully it’s not a common eye disease, but even then, it’s not a rare condition. Did you know that KC is generally first diagnosed in young people at puberty or in their late teens? This condition affects persons all over the world. If you know someone with KC and or want to support this cause, get a Pura Vida Bracelet and help advocate!
